Description

The slender xenotilapia is a cichlid endemic to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. The species grows to about 11 cm and has a slender, pale body with a pearly sheen. It inhabits rocky habitats; the females form small to large schools. As a bottom searcher it sifts small invertebrates and growth from the sediment. Like other Xenotilapia species it is a mouthbrooder, in which in some relatives both parents take turns carrying the brood in the mouth. The species is popular with advanced aquarists and is harmless to humans.
