The Elegant notothen (Patagonotothen elegans) is a saltwater fish of the family Nototheniidae that grows up to 6 cm.
Description
The elegant notothen is a small cold-water fish from the southern waters of South America, off Chile and at Cape Virgins in the southwestern Atlantic. The species grows to only about 6 cm and belongs to the notothenioid fishes, which are adapted to cold water. As a near-bottom dweller it lives at about 100 metres depth. Little is recorded of its diet and reproduction. The fish is harmless to humans and has not been evaluated by the IUCN (NE).
