The Orestias crawfordi is a freshwater fish of the family Cyprinodontidae that grows up to 8 cm.
Description
Orestias crawfordi is a small fish of the family Cyprinodontidae from the high Andes of South America, in the Lake Titicaca basin on the border of Peru and Bolivia. The species reaches about 8 cm and has, characteristic of the genus Orestias, no pelvic fins. It inhabits cold, clear highland water. The diet consists of small zooplankton, insect larvae and small invertebrates. Unlike many killifishes this is not a seasonal fish. The genus Orestias shows a remarkable species richness in the Andean lakes, arising from isolation in separate waters.
