The Kuhlia malo is a freshwater fish of the family Kuhliidae that grows up to 14 cm.
Description
Kuhlia malo is a fish of the family Kuhliidae endemic to Tahiti and Moorea in French Polynesia. The species reaches about 14 cm and has a silvery, streamlined body with a conspicuously banded tail fin, characteristic of the flagtails. Unlike many relatives it lives in fresh water, in streams and rivers. It is an active schooling fish that feeds on insects and small invertebrates, often near the surface. Through its life in flowing fresh water on islands the species is sensitive to changes in the water regime; the IUCN assesses it as data deficient (DD).
