Labyrinth fishes owe their name to a special labyrinth organ that lets them gulp air at the surface and so live in oxygen-poor water. This group includes the bettas, gouramis and the predatory snakeheads. Males of many species build a foam nest of air bubbles in which they guard the eggs. The Siamese fighting fish is famous for its flowing fins and fierce territorial behaviour. They are mostly Asian freshwater fish and classics in the community aquarium.
