Description
The sand catlet is a very small African catfish (Amphiliidae) from the Congo basin in Central Africa. The species is small and translucent with a spotted pattern and barbels, well camouflaged against sandy bottoms. It lives bottom-bound among the sand and gravel of clear streams and rivers. Probing the bottom, it feeds on small invertebrates and insect larvae. The fin spines can give a puncture wound when handled.
