Description
The sharpnose tetra is a small characin from fresh water of Central America, including Lake Nicaragua and adjacent waters. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a silvery, laterally compressed body with a pointed snout and often a dark stripe extending into the tail. It schools in rivers, streams and lakes and feeds on insects, small crustaceans, algae and plant matter. The fish is harmless to humans. The IUCN has not evaluated the species.
