The Mweru hump-backed bream (Tylochromis mylodon) is a freshwater fish of the family Cichlidae that grows up to 22 cm.
Description
The Mylodon cichlid is an African freshwater cichlid occurring in West and Central African river systems. The species has an elongate, silvery-grey body with a continuous, spiny dorsal fin and grows to about 22 cm. As a bottom feeder it eats mainly insects and their larvae, and to a lesser extent crustaceans and molluscs. The species is a maternal mouthbrooder that does not form a pair bond. Notably, it is highly sensitive to oxygen shortage, which restricts it to well-aerated waters. The fish is eaten locally and is harmless to humans.
