Description

The Tiburon limia is a livebearing toothcarp (Poeciliidae) from the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean. The species is small; the male is smaller and possesses an anal fin modified into a mating organ (gonopodium). Unlike egg-laying fishes the female gives birth to live young. It prefers small, shallow flowing waters and adjacent marshy, heavily vegetated parts. It feeds on algae, detritus and small invertebrates. The species is harmless to humans.
