Description

The Malawi gar is a cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. The species grows to about 14 cm and has a strikingly elongate, silvery body with a pointed, gar-like head, an adaptation for seizing prey. As a predator it hunts small fish and invertebrates over sandy bottoms of the lake. It is a mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans.
