Description

The Electric yellow cichlid is a cichlid from fresh water of Lake Malawi in East Africa. The species grows to about 8 cm and has a coloured body. The cultivated form is bright yellow with a black dorsal-fin edge; in the wild it also occurs light blue. As a bottom-oriented omnivore it eats small invertebrates, algae and detritus. It is an attentive parental or mouthbrooder. The fish is harmless to humans and is popular in the aquarium trade.
