The Midwater scorpionfish (Ectreposebastes imus) is a saltwater fish of the family Setarchidae that grows up to 18 cm.
Description
The midwater scorpionfish is a scorpionfish (Setarchidae) from the deep sea. The species has a soft, dark body with large eyes and is, among all scorpionfishes, the best adapted to life in the open midwater. It lives benthopelagically in the deep water layers of the ocean, far from the bottom. It feeds on small crustaceans and small fishes. Like other scorpionfishes it bears venomous fin spines; a sting gives a painful puncture wound. Treat a sting with hot water and seek medical help if symptoms occur.
