Description
The Blackfin cisco is a whitefish (Salmonidae) from cold, clear lakes and rivers of the Great Lakes of North America. The species grows to about 40 cm and has a slender, silvery, streamlined body with a small mouth and an adipose fin. As a social schooling fish it swims in cold, oxygen-rich water and filters small zooplankton and snaps at insect larvae and small invertebrates from the bottom. It is an important food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
