Description

The kiyi is a whitefish (Salmonidae) from the deeper, cold waters of some of the Great Lakes in North America. The species grows to about 25 cm and has a slender, laterally compressed, bright-silvery body with large eyes and an adipose fin. As a schooling open-water fish it swims in deeper layers and feeds on small zooplankton, especially opossum shrimp. The fish is harmless to humans.
