Description

The glass headstander is a very small characin (Characidae) from fresh water of northern South America. The species grows to about 3 cm and has a translucent, silvery body with a dark stripe on the rear half. It often takes an oblique, head-up posture. It lives in schools in slow streams and eats small zooplankton and larvae. The fish is harmless to humans.
