Description

The darter characin is a darter characin (Crenuchidae) from South America. The species is small and elongate with a row of dark crossbars over the flank. It rests much on the bottom and in quiet (lentic) parts of streams and rivers, propped on its pectoral fins. As a bottom hunter it snaps small invertebrates and insect larvae. The species is harmless to humans.
