Description
The fullscale gaper is a gaper (Champsodontidae) of sand and mud bottoms of deeper water around Australia and the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a slender, semi-translucent body with a large, widely opening mouth and high-set eyes. As a bottom-oriented fish it lies on the sediment and snaps lightning-fast at small crustaceans and small fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
