Description

The borriqueta grunt is a grunt (Haemulidae) from coastal and estuarine water of the southwest Atlantic, off South America. The species grows to about 19 cm and has a deep, silver-grey body sometimes with fine longitudinal lines. As a bottom-oriented predator it lives over sand and mud bottoms of coastal water and hunts worms, small crustaceans and molluscs; it makes grunting sounds with its throat teeth. It is a food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
