Description
The yellowbelly cichlid is a small cichlid from fresh water of Central America. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a stocky body with dark crossbars and a yellowish belly. As a territorial, bottom-oriented fish it defends a cavity among stones and wood and eats algae, insect larvae and small invertebrates. Both parents fiercely guard the brood. The fish is harmless to humans.
