Description
The Giant torrent catfish is a torrent catfish (Amblycipitidae) from fast-flowing, cool mountain streams of the mountain streams of southern China in East Asia. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a flattened, smooth, brown body with barbels around the mouth and an adipose fin, adapted to life among stones in strong current. As a nocturnal bottom-dweller it searches for insect larvae and small invertebrates. The pectoral spines bear a venom gland that can give a painful sting.
