Description

The tui chub is a North American minnow (Cyprinidae) from the west of the continent. The species has a streamlined, olive-brown to silvery body and reaches about 45 cm. It inhabits lakes and quiet, vegetated pools with mud or sand bottoms in headwaters, creeks and rivers. It is an adaptable omnivore feeding on plankton, insects, algae and detritus. The species occurs in many forms across the arid west of North America; some isolated desert-spring populations are rare and threatened.
