Description
The African barrelfish is a pelagic fish from temperate and subtropical waters of the southern hemisphere, including around southern Africa. The species grows to about 1 metre and has an elongate, dark body. Juveniles live in open water often in the company of drifting jellyfish and weeds; adults move to deeper water. It feeds on jellyfish, salps and small zooplankton. The fish is harmless to humans and is assessed as Least Concern (LC) by the IUCN.
