Description

The Tidepool gunnel is a gunnel (Pholidae) from cold coastal waters of the northwest Pacific, off East Asia. The species grows to about 30 cm and has a strongly elongate, ribbon-shaped, brownish body with a long, low dorsal fin. As a bottom-dweller it shelters among weed, stones and in tide pools of rocky shores and snaps at small crustaceans and worms. The fish is harmless to humans.
