Description
The fantail filefish is a filefish (Monacanthidae) endemic to the waters around Hawaii. The species grows to about 18 cm and has a deep, laterally compressed, yellow-brown body densely covered with black spots and an orange, black-edged tail that can be spread like a fan. As a reef-dweller it lives on coral and rocky reefs and eats weed, sponges and small invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
