Description
The Cape armorhead is an armorhead (Pentacerotidae) from coastal and slope waters around southern Africa. The species grows to about 35 cm and has a deep, laterally compressed body with a strikingly bony, armoured head with exposed, ridged skull bones. As a bottom-oriented dweller of rocky reefs and the continental margin it snaps at small crustaceans, worms and invertebrates. It is a local food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
