Description

The striped spikefish is a deep-water fish of the spikefish family (Triacanthodidae) from the western Atlantic Ocean. The species has a stocky body with a rough skin, a small mouth with a pointed snout and stout dorsal and pelvic spines, and bears fine lengthwise stripes. It lives near the bottom on soft bottoms of the deeper continental shelf and slope. On the bottom it feeds on small invertebrates. The species is harmless to humans.
