Description

The stream scraper is a cyprinid (Cyprinidae) from clear, fast-flowing mountain waters of East Asia. The species grows to about 24 cm and has a streamlined, silvery body and a transverse, inferior mouth with a horny edge with which it rasps algae and growth from stones. As a bottom-oriented grazer it lives in cool, oxygen-rich water and eats aufwuchs, algae, small invertebrates and detritus. It is a local food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
