Description
The Bloomfield River cod is a small native freshwater fish from clear, shaded rainforest rivers of the far northeast of Australia. The species grows to about 15 cm and has a stocky, dark body with a large head and mouth. As a bottom-oriented ambush predator it shelters among roots, stones and logs and seizes small fish, shrimp and insects. Through its very limited range the species is vulnerable. The fish is harmless to humans.
