The Laysan splendid perch (Grammatonotus laysanus) is a saltwater fish of the family Callanthiidae that grows up to 13 cm.
Description
The Laysan splendid perch is a small, colourful deep-water bass of the family Callanthiidae from the central Pacific around the Hawaiian Islands. The species grows to about 13 cm and has a handsomely yellow to pink body with blue tints and elongated tail-fin tips. It inhabits deeper rocky and coral reefs and steep slopes below normal diving depth, usually between a few tens of metres and well over a hundred metres. As a plankton feeder it picks zooplankton from the water column. Owing to its life at greater depth the species is rarely seen and is harmless to humans.
