Description

The Magdalena curimata is a characin (Curimatidae) from fresh water of the Magdalena and Cauca basins in Colombia. The species grows to about 32 cm and has a deep, silvery, laterally compressed body and a toothless mouth. As a bottom-oriented fish it sifts detritus, algae and bottom mud over sand and mud bottoms of rivers. It is a food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
