Description
The Alice argentina is a slender argentine from the eastern Pacific, ranging from Nicaragua to Peru. It grows to about 15 cm and has an elongate, silvery body with a small mouth and large eyes, characteristic of the argentines. A bottom-dweller, the fish lives on the continental shelf and upper slope between about 100 and 300 metres depth, where it swims in schools close to the bottom and feeds on small crustaceans. The species is of minor direct fisheries value and is mainly processed into fishmeal. The IUCN assesses it as Least Concern (LC).
