Description
The attentive carplet is a small cyprinid (Cyprinidae) from fresh water of Sri Lanka and southern India. The species grows to about 8 cm and has a slender, silvery body with fine scales and often a glossy lengthwise band. As a schooling fish it lives in ponds, rice paddies and slow-flowing streams and eats phytoplankton, algae and detritus. The fish is harmless to humans.
