Description

The Kura riffle minnow is a small cyprinid from fresh water of the Caucasus, mainly in the Kura basin and the southwestern Caspian Sea. The species grows to about 11 cm and has a slender, silvery, laterally compressed body. It schools in clear, flowing water of rivers and streams and feeds on insects, small zooplankton and algae. The fish is harmless to humans and has limited commercial value. The IUCN assesses the species as Least Concern (LC).
