The Network sole (Achirus scutum) is a brackish-water fish of the family Achiridae that grows up to 28 cm.
Description
The banded sole is a small flatfish of the American sole family (Achiridae) from the eastern Pacific. The species grows to about 28 cm and has an oval, strongly flattened body with both eyes on the right side and a brown mottled, sometimes banded eyed side that camouflages it on the bottom. It inhabits coastal waters and enters estuaries, where it hides half-buried on soft bottoms. As a bottom hunter it feeds on small crustaceans and polychaete worms. Owing to its camouflaged, bottom-bound habits it is little noticed. The species is harmless to humans.
